Recently, I had an eye-opening conversation with a close friend who, despite being well-educated and up-to-date on various developments, confessed to not understanding terms like "veneers" and "implants." Another friend, a doctor, purchased an over-the-counter whitening gel based on a compelling marketing campaign, only to discover it was potentially harmful to teeth.
In my 20 years of dental practice, I've noticed that awareness of common oral health issues and dental procedures needs improvement. While terms like "veneers" and "implants" may be familiar, many people are unsure about their meaning and implications.
I'm on a mission to simplify dentistry and make it evidence-based, meaning rooted in research. My goal is to empower you to make informed decisions about your dental care, preserving your teeth and choosing treatments that suit your age and budget. It has become evident that the public deserves better knowledge about dental basics.
One significant challenge we face is the proliferation of dental misinformation on social media platforms. Often, the dental profession is represented by young dentists or hygienists who may lack the experience and expertise needed to provide accurate information. This has resulted in the spread of non-evidence-based claims, leading to confusion and misconceptions.
I aim to provide straightforward explanations about natural healthy teeth, the causes of dental issues, prevention strategies, and treatment solutions. I want to clarify the potential complications of each treatment in a way that's accessible to everyone, using simple language and, when necessary, highlighting the evidence behind my explanations.
I'll address frequently asked questions about teeth and dentistry, drawing from my experience of answering them in my practice. I'll use simple words and, when applicable, include illustrations for clarity. I'll also indicate when my explanations are supported by scientific research, denoted by the color pink.
One crucial message I want to emphasize is that there is a # no third set of teeth. My specialty involves replacing missing teeth and enhancing esthetics and function using lab-made prosthetics such as crowns, bridges, implants, dentures, veneers, and composite bonding. However, none of these options come close to the natural teeth's quality in terms of function, aesthetics, and longevity.
My primary goal with these blogs is to help you understand the structure of teeth and the mouth, how dental issues arise, and how to prevent them.
THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM ME IS - THERE IS #NO THIRD SET OF TEETH, AND YOUR CURRENT ADULT TEETH ARE A VALUABLE BLESSING THAT, WITH PROPER CARE, CAN LAST A LIFETIME!
