I had a patient referred to me by a colleague, and she was really self-conscious about those brown patches on her upper front teeth, thanks to fluorosis. At first, we planned to whiten her teeth for a uniform tone before going for the Icon resin infiltration treatment. However, there was a risk that the white patches could become more prominent with whitening, and the patient wasn't comfortable with that option.
So, we decided to proceed directly with the Icon resin infiltration. It's a minimally invasive procedure that doesn't require drilling or anesthesia. It's designed to restore the natural color of the teeth and get rid of those white spots, enamel defects, and the discolorations caused by fluorosis, whether they're white or brown speckles on the enamel.
The incredible part is that we achieved fantastic results in just one appointment, even though we initially thought we might need multiple sessions, especially for those deep-seated brown lesions. Both the patient and I were absolutely thrilled with the outcome. And the best part is that these results can last for up to five years or even longer. It's a great feeling knowing we were able to address her concerns effectively.

Patient's Initial Concern:
The patient was referred to you by a colleague due to her profound self-consciousness about the fluorosis brown patches on her upper front teeth.
Fluorosis had caused issues like white and brown speckling on the enamel, affecting the aesthetics of her smile.
Treatment Process:
Initial Whitening Consideration: The initial plan was to whiten the patient's teeth to achieve a uniform tooth color. This was a preparatory step for further treatment.
Decision to Proceed with Icon Resin Infiltration: However, the patient was concerned that whitening might make the white patches more prominent. As a result, the patient declined the teeth whitening option.
Icon Resin Infiltration: Given the patient's concerns and preference, you proceeded directly with the Icon resin infiltration treatment. This minimally invasive procedure eliminates the need for drilling or anesthesia. It aims to restore the natural color of the teeth by eliminating white spots, enamel defects, and fluorosis-related discolorations.
Outcome:
Remarkably, exceptional results were achieved in a single appointment of an hour, even though there had been an initial plan for multiple appointments, especially for addressing deep-seated brown lesions.
Both the patient and I were delighted with the outcome, indicating a high level of satisfaction.
The results were expected to last for up to five years or more, providing the patient with a long-term solution to her concerns.
This case highlights the importance of accommodating a patient's concerns and preferences in treatment planning. The success of the Icon resin infiltration treatment, without the need for teeth whitening, is an excellent example of how modern dentistry can effectively address cosmetic issues and improve a patient's self-esteem.
