A patient visited my clinic after breaking his upper front lateral incisor, with an important wedding just three weeks away. He was understandably anxious about his appearance for the upcoming event and sought a quick yet effective solution.
Treatment:
After assessing the situation, we decided to proceed with a resin-bonded bridge featuring a single wing as the most suitable temporary solution. We took impressions of his teeth to ensure the bridge would match perfectly with his existing dental structure. The plan included extracting the remaining root of the broken incisor and immediately fitting the custom-made bridge to minimize any aesthetic disruption.
Given the nature of such treatments, I explained to the patient the potential for gum and bone shrinkage, which can result in a gap between the gum and the bridge. This shrinkage could affect up to 4 mm in width and height. To address this possibility proactively, I designed the crown portion of the bridge to be longer than usual to cover the gum area comprehensively, aiming to prolong the lifespan of the bridge and maintain its aesthetic appeal.
Outcome:
The procedure went smoothly, and the immediate fitting of the bridge post-extraction provided a pleasing result. The patient was relieved and pleased with the appearance, feeling confident for the wedding day. The extended crown effectively covered the gum, minimizing the visual impact of any potential shrinkage. This solution offered both a timely and aesthetically pleasing fix, ensuring the patient could enjoy the special occasion without concerns about his smile.
