I had the privilege of treating an extraordinary patient who demonstrated unwavering dedication by traveling over an hour for each visit, one way, to seek our dental expertise. This case was particularly challenging, and while previous dental professionals had rejected it, we were determined to provide the best care possible. We take pride in our exceptional skills, which made a significant difference in this patient's life.

The patient's dental history involved two upper front teeth that had been missing for over 20 years. They were initially restored with a 4-unit bridge. Unfortunately, a traumatic incident occurred when the patient was head-butted by one of the dogs she cared for as part of her charity work, which assists disabled individuals. This incident resulted in one of the retainer teeth of the bridge fracturing at the gum level, necessitating the extraction of the entire bridge.

As a temporary solution, we replaced the bridge with an immediate denture while waiting for the bone to shrink and heal. Creating adequate space for the implants to be placed and restored was one of the key challenges in this complex case.

The patient strongly disliked the upper denture and eagerly anticipated the conversion into an implant bridge. After around 12 months of waiting for the bone to heal, we finally had enough space to place the implants. Our exceptional surgeon, Dr. Sam Mohammed, skillfully performed this step despite the thin bone, ensuring precise placement at crucial positions.

The patient's primary desire was to have very natural-looking teeth, similar to her previous bridge. As evidenced by the after pictures, the patient was absolutely thrilled and extremely grateful for eliminating the "horrid dentures," as she described them. This case demonstrates the transformative power of dental care and how it can greatly enhance a patient's quality of life and self-esteem. We were honored to be part of this remarkable journey.

Patient Background:

The patient traveled a considerable distance, over an hour for each visit, to seek treatment.
Patient Concerns:

The patient had two upper front teeth missing for over 20 years, which had initially been restored with a 4-unit bridge.
A head injury, caused by one of the dogs she looked after as part of her charity work for disabled individuals, resulted in a fractured retainer tooth of the bridge, necessitating the entire bridge's extraction.
Treatment:

After the extraction of the bridge, an immediate denture was provided as a temporary solution while allowing time for bone shrinkage and healing. This step was crucial to create space for future implant placement and restoration.

Following approximately 12 months of waiting and bone healing, implants were placed by the skilled surgeon, Dr. Sam Mohammed. The case involved some challenges due to thin bone, requiring precise implant placement.

The patient expressed a desire for very natural-looking teeth, similar to her previous bridge.

Outcome:

The final results showed a significant transformation, and the patient was thrilled with the outcome.
The patient, who initially had reservations about wearing dentures, was extremely grateful for the transition from dentures to an implant-supported bridge.
The achievement of a 'horrid denture'-free smile was particularly gratifying for the patient.
This case highlights the dedication of both the patient and the dental team in addressing a complex dental issue. Despite the challenges posed by the head injury and the need for implant placement in thin bone, the patient's satisfaction with the outcome was highly rewarding.
