After

Patient, a 60-year-old individual, presented with several concerns, including:

● Dissatisfaction with the appearance of her upper teeth.
● Gaps on her lower teeth and wear
● Difficulty in eating due to the absence of all her lower back teeth.
● Previous unsuccessful attempts with dentures.
● Sjögren's syndrome, a medical condition characterized by reduced saliva production, which made wearing dentures challenging.
Treatment Process:

● Improving the Smile with Crowns: We initially tried an increase in opening the bite on white fillings, which the patient was satisfied with after 3 months, but has numerous chipping which was then converted to crown and implant crowns.
● The upper teeth were enhanced with the placement of crowns. Veneers were not a suitable option due to the patient's bruxism (grinding/clenching of teeth), which could compromise the longevity of veneers.
● Restoration of Lower Teeth with Composite (White Filling): The lower teeth were built up using composite restorations (white fillings). Composite fillings are a conservative approach to restoring tooth structure, providing both aesthetics and functionality. Asd lower teeth if prepared for crowns have shown to fail needing root canals and then extractions.

● Placement of Two Implants: To address the issue of missing lower back teeth and to improve the patient's ability to eat properly, two dental implants were placed on either side of the lower arch. Implants are a durable and stable option for replacing missing teeth.

Outcome:

The treatment achieved the following outcomes:

Enhanced Smile: The crowns on the upper teeth improved the patient's smile, addressing her concerns about the appearance of her teeth.

Improved Functionality: Building up the lower teeth with composite and the placement of dental implants restored proper tooth function and significantly improved the patient's ability to eat.

Sjögren's Syndrome Consideration: The treatment approach took into account the challenges posed by Sjögren's syndrome and avoided the need for traditional dentures.

The patient expressed being thrilled with the results, indicating a high level of satisfaction with the treatment outcomes.
